Did You Know? Kevlar® Gloves are More Than Just Knitted Gloves.

MICROTEX® knitted gloves are among the most effective products that incorporate the innovative Kevlar® (เคฟลาร์) technology, offering superior cut and heat resistance. Notable examples include the Kevlar® MICROTEX SUPER CUT HEAT gloves and the MICROTEX® CUT HEAT GLOVE.

Today, there are numerous manufacturers and distributors of Kevlar® branded knitted gloves available in the market. At first glance, these gloves may appear similar. However, various factors in the manufacturing process significantly enhance the gloves’ cut resistance performance. GLOVETEX is here to help you understand more about gloves made from the remarkably strong Kevlar® yarn.

Kevlar® is a synthetic polymer yarn known for its high strength and lightweight nature. Compared to steel of the same weight, Kevlar® is five times stronger. This strength stems from the high crystallinity of the polymer, with its straight, non-entangled fibers that provide excellent resistance to impact, tension, chemicals, heat, and cuts. On the other hand, if the polymer fibers are not straight and become entangled, like noodles, the polymer will be amorphous, leading to reduced strength but increased flexibility. In short, gaining one property often means sacrificing another.

Now that you know more about Kevlar® yarn, let’s explore its applications. Kevlar® is produced in several grades, each designed for specific uses:

  • Kevlar® 29: Commonly used in bulletproof vests, ropes, and heavy-duty cables.
  • Kevlar® 49: Used to reinforce aerospace components, ropes, bulletproof armor, marine equipment, and sporting goods.
  • Kevlar® 68: Offers mechanical properties between Kevlar® 29 and Kevlar® 49.
  • Kevlar® 100: This grade is colored and used in gloves and clothing.
  • Kevlar® 119: Known for its durability, it’s used in tire reinforcement and belts.
  • Kevlar® 129: With high tensile strength, it’s used in ropes, bulletproof vests, and tires.
  • Kevlar® 149: Features an exceptionally high modulus, used in ropes and cables.

Due to Kevlar®’s high strength, chemical resistance, heat resistance, and lightweight properties, many manufacturers are now incorporating Kevlar® into various products. These include personal protective equipment such as bulletproof vests, cut-resistant gloves, racing suits, helmets, and vehicles.

These are just a few examples of products that utilize Kevlar® as a key component, and it’s expected that more industries will adopt Kevlar® in the future. For instance, the MICROTEX® CUT HEAT GLOVE is one of the most efficient products incorporating Kevlar® technology for superior cut and heat resistance, including gloves like the Kevlar® MICROTEX SUPER CUT HEAT and the MICROTEX® CUT HEAT GLOVE.
